Estate planning can seem like a roadway riddled with potholes, but we make that roadway smooth. We ask the right questions, give you straight advice and put together documents that are tried and true.
What to expect
When we meet, we will discuss the preparation of wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and living wills for healthcare decisions. By talking through your late-life planning options and counselling you on your choices, we will create a plan that works for you and your family.
For some, we can prepare a simple will, which basically splits your assets among your family members, and appoints an executor.
Not all plans are simple, however. Perhaps one of your intended heirs owes you money, or a child is estranged from the family, or you are the parent of a special needs child. Or, you may be in a second marriage and one or both of you have children from your first marriage. We have dealt with those issues countless times, and, together, we can make the plan carry out your wishes and protect those who need it the most.
Here are some common scenarios we address:
- Many people want to pay little or no Pennsylvania Inheritance Tax or Federal Estate Tax. By using tax-avoidance methods that have been time-tested, we can explain the process and point you in the right direction.
- Long-term care (nursing home) planning, or as it is often called, Medicaid Planning, is something that most families will face at some point in their lives. We prepare comprehensive plans to address that and shepherd you and your family through the entire process of becoming "Medicaid eligible."
- When a death occurs, we can guide you through the complicated maze of “probate.” Our experience in this complex area is both a time and a money saver for you. Do yourself and the other heirs a favor and put your trust in someone who has handled hundreds upon hundreds of Estates.
- For those who favor avoiding probate, there is the revocable trust. Used properly, it can help families save money and allow the estate assets to move on to the next generation faster than by going through probate. We can prepare trust documents for you, guide you through the funding process, and advise and counsel the trustee.
